Phoenix Protocol mints phUSD against accepted stablecoins and sends the backing into external ERC-4626 yield strategies on Ethereum, with yield pooled for optional phUSD staking. The 2026-08-16 survey measured about $0.006M, only 0.006% of the size floor. Phoenix Protocol is below that floor, so the version-1 dossier does not open an individual review of backing, strategies, peg liquidity, the pauser, admin or delegated allocations until it clears the floor.

The research file

Mechanism applicability

Phoenix documentation says users mint phUSD 1:1 from accepted stablecoins, and the protocol sends deposited capital into external ERC-4626 yield vaults. A stable-yield accumulator pools returns in USDC and distributes them through optional phUSD staking. Holders therefore depend on strategy assets and adapters, phUSD contracts and peg liquidity, not on a standalone cash claim.

Control, loss and exit applicability

The current deployment repository names the minter, staking contract, yield accumulator and a dedicated Pauser on Ethereum. Deployment and governance scripts configure the suite. Users can withdraw staked phUSD from the farm, but the public material reviewed does not show that ordinary phUSD holders have an unconditional direct redemption right. A full exit review must test minter permissions, strategy withdrawals, pausing and secondary-market depth.

Current observation and lifecycle

The DefiLlama API read on 2026-08-16 classified Phoenix Protocol as a Yield Aggregator and reported approximately $0.006M, all on Ethereum, based on yield tokens held by YieldStrategy contracts. The live site, application and mainnet-address repository show an active phase-2 product. The survey lists no audit record.

Why the materiality dossier decides

Measured TVL is approximately 0.006% of the size floor, which provides no capacity evidence for an advised allocation. Do not open the individual review until protocol TVL stays above the size floor for 30 days. Then reconcile phUSD supply to strategy assets, verify every vault and adapter, mint and pause roles, audit and incident history, peg markets, direct and secondary exits, and proposed-size withdrawals.

Research status

This is a capacity-unproven record for Phoenix Protocol, not a quality rejection or approval. Reported TVL says how big the venue is, not what the client owns, who can change the rules, or how a position exits at a proposed size. The individual review opens when the protocol clears the size floor.

Sources

The claims above trace to these. Where a number could not be independently verified, the thesis says so.

Inherited controls

The research above describes the protocol layer. Every position also inherits the asset it holds and the chain it settles on. The layer with the most administrative power sets the position’s effective control; that describes control, not quality or suitability.
